Did Gerald Massey say Egypt’s wisdom came from Africa?

Yes. In Ancient Egypt: The Light of the World (1907), Gerald Massey argued that the signs, myths and customs of Egypt began in inner Africa, and he looked for their first home around the great lakes at the sources of the Nile. Egypt, in his view, was the heir that gave them lasting form and wrote them down, and from Egypt they spread to the rest of the world. Putting Africa at the start was unusual in 1907. Egypt is studied today as an African civilisation, but the chains of descent Massey drew are not accepted.
