Did the Bible come from ancient Egypt? What did Massey claim, and what do scholars say?

Not as a whole, say biblical scholars and Egyptologists, though Egypt left its mark in places. The clearest is a passage in the Book of Proverbs that closely parallels an Egyptian book of wisdom. Gerald Massey went much further. In the last six Books of his 1907 book Ancient Egypt: The Light of the World, he argues that much of the Bible, from Genesis to the Gospels and Revelation, grew out of Egyptian myth and ritual retold as history. Scholars see a Bible that took shape in a world it shared with Egypt, Mesopotamia and Canaan, not a copy of Egypt.
