What did the pyramid shape mean in ancient Egypt?

The king’s tomb and his way to the sky. The texts carved inside the later pyramids are the oldest large body of religious writing known.

What the sign shows: A pyramid inside its enclosure wall.
How Gerald Massey read it in 1907: For Massey it is a built copy of the sacred mount.
Where you see it today: The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world still standing.
Where it stands in Massey’s book: Massey names it 67 times across the book. Book IX, p. 566: “Justice carried at the prow”; Book IX, p. 607: “Seven eyes upon one stone”; Book VI, p. 364b: “Washed in the pool of heaven”.
Signs that look like it: Stairway, Horizon and Star. The app’s Symbol Trainer sets them side by side, so the eye learns to tell them apart.
In Massey’s words: “The pyramid is an artificial figure of the mount as means of the ascent to heaven.” (Gerald Massey, Ancient Egypt: The Light of the World (1907), Book VI, p. 394)
In the app: Trainer › Symbol Trainer › Pyramid. The app’s Symbol Trainer reads 42 signs this way, each with Massey’s own words and the page they stand on.
